Curacao fourth in top 10 distant destinations Schiphol
WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao ranks fourth among popular faraway destinations from Schiphol. New York is number one, followed by Atlanta and Dubai. This is apparent from figures from the airport on the number of passengers in the months of July and August.
In the first nine months of the year, nearly 40 million passengers flew to and from Schiphol. By far the largest part flies within Europe. 28 percent fly to a distant destination.
Schiphol handled more than five million passengers last month. That is still less than in the time before the corona pandemic. Then, in the same month, about 6.5 million travelers used the airport.
Although the figures show a recovery compared to September 2020 and 2021, the normal level is not yet in sight. This is partly due to the fact that a number of Asian countries, such as China, only allow travellers to a limited extent. In addition, airlines must limit the number of passengers to limit the crowds at the security checkpoint.
The fourth place of Curaçao in the top ten of distant destinations is thanks to KLM and TUI. KLM flies directly to the island fourteen times a week, TUI six times.
